Bivalve Chair

Inflatable seating system.

  • Named for it's resemblance to pearls and oysters, this low seat is a reconfiguration of the Vitis Light. Using the same harness system, the Bivalve Chair can be deflated, stored, and deployed anywhere.  I will be developing this project further through the summer of 2019 as I am currently testing it's ability to float and work on different surface area i.e. sand, grass, water, etc.

  • Beachballs, nylon webbing

  • 1' x 3' x 3’

After doing a series of 3D sketches using pingpong balls, I decided on the correct geometry that would properly work as a chair.

Once the model was built, I brought it to the beach to test its buoyancy how it functions on sand.

Comfortable as floating chair with a backrest.
